In English
Lulo, also called naranjilla (Solanum quitoense), is a round orange fruit native to the Andes of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Inside it has juicy green pulp full of tiny seeds.
Tart and refreshing, often described as a mix of pineapple and lemon or lime. Despite the citrus-like flavor, it is not a citrus fruit: it belongs to the nightshade family, with tomato and eggplant.
Rub off the fine fuzz, cut it in half and scoop out the pulp. It is mostly used for juice: blend the pulp with water and sugar, strain and serve over ice. It also works in sorbets, jams, desserts and sauces.
