Chard (Acelga)
$4.29 / 1/2 libra
Category: Leaves
This chard (Swiss chard), grown in Puerto Rico, has broad green leaves and crisp stalks that can be white, red, or yellow depending on the variety. It's versatile in the kitchen: sauté it with garlic and olive oil, stir it into a stew or soup, or use it raw and chopped in a salad when the leaves are tender. The stalks can also be cooked separately since they take a bit longer to soften than the leaves. Store it in the refrigerator wrapped in a damp paper towel to keep it fresh longer. Sold by the half pound.
